The Story

The set consists of two identical bookends each manufactured from brass depicting a 1700’s caravel sailing ship at the end with the impressed words underneath – “The Victory”.

The HMS Victory was a 104 gun first rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy launched in 1765 and was Lord Nelson’s flagship. The ship became a museum ship in 1922 and became the flagship of the first sea lord since October 2012 making her the worlds oldest naval ship still in commission with 243 years’ service in 2021.

The item is not visibly marked or stamped and therefore difficult to determine the true age, although they were most probably manufactured around the 1940’s – 1950’s.

Besides requiring a polish and some patina spots here and there, they are in good usable condition.

Height: 9.2 cm, Length: 13.8, Width: 8 cm

Note: books not included in the sale.
