The Story

The ceramic art of Castelli, in Abruzzo, has very ancient origins but it became famous in the 16th century. Castelli Ceramics are even today preserved in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

This item is a rare in South Africa collectable Italian porcelain classic sized designer tile set into a faux wood (plastic / acrylic) base so as to function as a trivet. The tile has been decorated with a studio art bird figure. The item is unique due to its hand decorated nature, as are all porcelain wares from Castelli, Italy.

The tile is impressed underneath – Maiolica Forte, Ceramica Dei Castelli, Made in Italy.

Although not visible on the pictures, the tile has a crack in the right bottom corner as well as a tiny chip in the top left corner. The faux wood frame / base  also show signs of wear.

Height: 1 cm, Dimensions: 19.2 cm x 19.2 cm
