Rare Vintage Italian Porcelain Designer Tile (Trivet) In Faux Wood Base – Maiolica Forte

The ceramic art of Castelli, in Abruzzo, has very ancient origins but it became famous in the 16^th century. Castelli Ceramics are even today preserved in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

This item is a rare in South Africa collectable Italian porcelain classic sized designer tile set into a faux wood (plastic / acrylic) base so as to function as a trivet. The tile has been decorated with a studio art bird figure. The item is unique due to its hand decorated nature, as are all porcelain wares from Castelli, Italy.

The tile is impressed underneath – Maiolica Forte, Ceramica Dei Castelli, Made in Italy.

Although not visible on the pictures, the tile has a crack in the right bottom corner as well as a tiny chip in the top left corner. The faux wood frame / base  also show signs of wear.
