The Story

After working at the Doulton factory for 14 years, Willliam Robinson Midwinter established his own company in 1910, purchasing the Albion Pottery in 1914 and the Hadderidge Pottery during the 1920’s. In 1932 the firm became incorporated as W.H. Midwinter Ltd. In 1964 the firm acquired A.J. Wilkinson as well as Newport Pottery, but merged with J&G Meakin under British Tableware Ltd. in 1968. This was taken over by the Wedgwood Group in 1970. In 1987 Wedgwood closed the Meakin & Midwinter holdings.

The item is a semi porcelain salad bowl manufactured by Midwinter under their Stylecraft range during the early 1950’s (Stylecraft introduced by Midwinter in 1953). The bowl is the squared deco shape and has been beautifully decorated in an ombre turquoise colour around the verges, which mists into bright white.

Stamped underneath Stylecraft by Midwinter Staffordshire, Semi-Porcelain, Made in England Reg D 711843 868695.

The bowl is in very good condition with no visible damages.

Height of rim: 5.6 cm, Diameter of base: 9 cm, Across the rim: 22 cm x 22 cm
