Antique Silver Plated Porringer With Ring Handle

A porringer is a small bowl, typically with a handle, used for soup, stew, or similar dishes. They usually have one or two handles and are made in a range of materials. They were often used when feeding the sick or elderly. Porringers originated in the medieval period in Europe, and were made in wood, ceramic, pewter and silver. They had flat, horizontal handles. 

This item has a ring handle attached and a thumb rest above the handle. The rim of this item is decorated with a solidly crafted and attached beaded motif.

The bowl is not marked or stamped.

The bowl is in very good condition with a few patina spots visible in the well and a small area of plate loss underneath revealing some brass..
